Stan Allen

 

Stan Allen lavora come architetto a New York e insegna presso la Facoltà di architettura dell’Università di Princeton. Tra il 2002 e il 2012, è stato preside della facoltà. Ha condotto i suoi studi presso la Brown University, la Cooper Union e Princeton. Dopo la laurea ha lavorato nello studio di Richard Meier a New York e in quello di Rafael Moneo a Madrid. Nel 1990 ha fondato il suo studio di architettura, conducendo delle carriere parallele di insegnante, scrittore e architetto. Ha insegnato a Harvard, Columbia and Princeton, e il suo studio SAA/Stan Allen Architect ha realizzato progetti urbani ed edifici in America e Asia. Dal 2008, ha ricevuto tre P/A Awards, cinque AIA Awards, e il John Q. Hejduk Award dalla Cooper Union, e un Academy Award per l’architettura dalla American Academy of Arts and Letters. Nel 2011, Allen è associato dell’AIA College of Fellows e l’anno successivo 2012 è stato ammesso nella National Academy of Design. Oltre a molti articoli e saggi il suo lavoro architettonico è stato pubblicato in Points + Lines: Diagrams and Projects for the City e i suoi saggi in Practice: Architecture, Technique and Representation. Ha recentemente curato il volume Landform Building: Architecture’s New Terrain (Lars Müller, 2011).

Stan Allen is an architect working in New York and professor at Princeton’s School of Architecture. From 2002 -2012, he served as dean of the School. He holds degrees from Brown University, The Cooper Union and Princeton. After graduation he worked for Richard Meier in New York and Rafael Moneo in Madrid. In 1990 he established an independent practice, and since that time, has pursued parallel careers as educator, writer and architect. He has taught at Harvard, Columbia and Princeton, and his architectural firm SAA/Stan Allen Architect has realized buildings and urban projects in the United States, Latin America and Asia. Since 2008, he has received 3 P/A Awards, 5 AIA Awards, the John Q. Hejduk Award from Cooper Union, and an Academy Award in Architecture from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. In 2011, Allen was elevated to the AIA College of Fellows and in 2012 he was inducted into the National Academy of Design. In addition to numerous articles and project reviews, his architectural work is published in Points + Lines: Diagrams and Projects for the City and his essays in Practice: Architecture, Technique and Representation. His most recent book is the edited volume Landform Building: Architecture’s New Terrain (Lars Müller, 2011).
